BRAD ARINGTON TALKS ABOUT MOSSY POND RETRIEVERS NEW YORK
Mossy Pond Retrievers was developed in 2003 by Georgia native, Brad Arington, with just one dog and a profound dream. Brad purchased his first chocolate Labrador retriever, Bo, with the expectations of having a hunting companion. He began the process of training Bo to be an obedient gun dog for personal use. However, after visiting several local dove shoots and duck hunts, people began to recognize Brad’s talents with training and requested his expertise. Brad’s first payment received for training a dog was case of shotgun shells. The transaction started a fire in Brad and the journey began!
In 2005, a twelve stall kennel was constructed and quickly filled with a waiting list almost immediately. The demand for Brad continued to propagate rapidly, continued development was inevitable. Therefore, he then built a second kennel on track of family land. Growth was occurring faster than Brad could have imagined. Quickly after the construction of the new forty stall structure, the kennel was again filled with an incessant waiting list. The surge in demanded services required Brad to acquire 2 additional trainers. MPR began participating in AKC and UKC sanctioned events where the team found immense success. The nationwide attention allowed Mossy Pond Retrievers to secure sponsorship from Nutrena Foods, and training facility endorsement from Orvis.
Over the years, Mossy Pond Retrievers has continued to prosper. In 2011, a four thousand square foot lodge with banquet area was added to provide lodging, meeting accommodations, even a frequent wedding venue. The lodge is now used to host many corporate events with activities available onsite such as fishing, skeet/five stand shooting, and guided hunts. The expanded services include guided hunts for hog, turkey, quail, and pheasant. Additionally, Mossy Pond Retrievers has expanded geographically to the northern east coast, by opening a training and boarding facility in Marlboro, NY. Much the same as to what is offered at the Georgia facility you will find a second to none 15 station sporting clay course that has a vast following located on the grounds in New York. Along with multiple fly fishing ponds and lodging for the ease of retriever clients or sporting clay event participants, MPR tries to offer the absolute best to anyone that visits with us. Presently, MPR has approximately 130 dogs in training with 18 full-time staff members. MPR has 4 specialized trainers that travel from coast to coast, 25-40 weekends per year, for retrieving competitions. Recently, MPR has established relationships with Banded and Avery dog products.
